Hair Extension Care Guide
Look after your extensions and they'll look after you. These are the same care rules our stylists give every Citrus extension client.
What to avoid
Don't wash or towel your hair upside-down
Washing your hair upside-down, or wrapping it in a towel upside-down, pulls on the extensions and can break your hair where they attach.
Don't sleep with wet hair
Dry your hair thoroughly before bed, especially at the roots. Sleeping on wet attachments breaks them down.
Don't rub your hair dry
Rubbing hard with a towel stresses the attachments. Gently squeeze out the water and blot your hair with the towel instead.
Don't use hot tools on the attachments
Keep hot tools away from the root. Heat breaks down the attachments, which can make your extensions slip out and damage your own hair.
Don't overheat your hair
Keep your tools at 350°F or less and use them as little as possible. Never use a flat iron or curling iron at the root or near the attachments.
Don't put product at the scalp
Keep conditioner and styling products away from your scalp and the attachments. Apply them to the mid-lengths and ends only.
What to do
- Dry your hair thoroughly at the root. Never leave it wet.
- Use a soft-bristle brush recommended by your stylist.
- Be very gentle when brushing and drying.
- Blow-dry on cool or warm, never too hot.
- Avoid pulling or putting stress on the root.
- Brush thoroughly, roots to ends, before washing.
- Use a heat protectant on your hair.
- Use the products we recommend, free from silicone, alcohol, parabens and sulphates.
